The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

I painted this table of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in 1976. It is an oil of 300 cm x 240 cm and in it I represented the four sinister characters of War, Pestilence, Famine and the Death as scarecrows built with waste of rods, cartons, wires etc. with the idea of inspire repulsion and fear.

For a long time I thought that perhaps that vision was too much pessimist and that the fears that presaged for the Europe of XXI, improbable.

Who would tell me that now, 46 years later, the table has been brought into particularly sharp focus by the war in Europe, now a fact, the pandemic that scourge us two years ago, the despair and hunger of millions of people are still present.

Truly, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride again over all of us. And the fact is that sometimes the reality wants to imitate the art.
